DCP denies withdrawing candidate for Malava by-election

Democracy for Citizens ( DCP) Party has refuted the reports that its Malava candidate for the upcoming by-elections, Edgar Busiega, has withdrawn from the contest.
The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua-led faction is aiming for the seat to cement its political vet ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an X statement released on Sunday, September 14, 2025, the party described the reports as false and misleading.
“The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) wishes to inform the public that the reports circulating claiming our candidate for the Malaya Parliamentary race, Edgar Busiega, has withdrawn are false and misleading,” the statement read in part.
This comes after DAP-K supporters firmly rejected Malala’s request, vowing not to be coerced into voting for the DCP candidate.
DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga urged supporters and residents of Malava to disregard the claims and remain focused on the campaign.
“These claims are the result of panic by our competitors, who have sensed defeat in the face of the growing popularity of our candidate, Edgar Busiega remains firmly in the race, and we are confident of victory come 27th November 2025,” the DCP Party clarified.

The Malava race
The seat fell vacant following the death of MP Moses Malulu Injendi on February 17, 2025, while he was undergoing treatment in hospital.
Several political parties have shown interest in the seat.
Elsewhere, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi called on Malava constituents to approach the upcoming parliamentary by-election with deep reflection and civic responsibility.
The ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is seeking to retain the seat, with senior party officials engaging community leaders to rally support.
On the other hand, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), meanwhile, has opted not to field a candidate, citing political cooperation with UDA.
Among the expected contenders is the late Injendi’s son, though his choice of party is yet to be confirmed.
Clan dynamics and endorsements from the influential Kabras sub-tribes are playing a central role in shaping campaign strategies.
The Malava contest is one of several by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025, following a gazette notice by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on August 8, 2025.
Other National Assembly by-elections will be held in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Mbeere North, and Ugunja. A Senate by-election is also planned for Baringo County, alongside several ward representative (MCA) races.
