Breeder roots for proper structures and investment in Kenyan football after Harambee Stars win against Zambia

Kenyan hip-hop artiste Paul Baraka, better known as Breeder LW, has urged the government and football stakeholders to invest in proper structures for the growth of local football following Harambee Stars’ victory against Zambia in Group A of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
In a congratulatory message shared on his Instagram stories on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Breeder expressed his joy at the national team’s performance, noting that their success was proof of the immense talent within Kenya’s domestic football scene.
He pointed out that winning all group stage matches was not just a triumph for the players but also a reflection of the competitiveness of the local league, which has often been overlooked.
The rapper further emphasised that the growth of Kenyan football requires more than just individual brilliance on the pitch.
According to him, consistent investment, structured management, and deliberate nurturing of homegrown players could elevate the country’s standing on the continental and global stage. He singled out Harambee Stars forward Chesco Muchiri as an example of the emerging talent that demonstrates Kenya’s potential to compete internationally if well supported.
“Making 5M from 4 matches. Happy for Harambee Stars man. Game ya leo imekua fiti sana na huyo Chesco Muchiri ni a top top talent pia ni mnoma tactics unaeza cheki tu anajua kile anado. Winning all group stage matches reflects positively on our top league, proving that our domestic talent is competitive at the continental level, with serious investment and proper structures, Kenyan football inaeza zoza sana,” he stated.

Kenya sealed top spot in Group A after edging out Zambia 1-0 at Kasarani Stadium. Substitute Boniface Muchiri threaded a clever pass to Ryan Ogam in the 75th minute, who controlled the ball inside the box before smashing it past the goalkeeper, sparking wild celebrations from fans. The win capped off a perfect group stage campaign for Harambee Stars, who had already secured qualification before kickoff.
Across the city at Nyayo Stadium, Morocco secured the other ticket to the quarter-finals after producing a ruthless second-half display to beat DR Congo 3-1. After a 1-1 first half, Hrimat converted a penalty in the 70th minute before Lamlioui sealed the victory with a third goal.
President William Ruto, who attended the Kasarani match, praised Harambee Stars for their spirited run and reiterated his government’s support. Before the Zambia clash, Ruto had promised each player Ksh2.5 million for a win, which was duly delivered.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga also joined in congratulating the team and went further to promise each player Ksh500,000 as a personal token for their determination and success.
“I decided to come and say Hongera. We were all worried that if you drew or lost, you were going to play out of Nairobi, and we want you to play in front of our fans here. I will add to what the President has promised. I will give you Ksh500,000 each,” he told the players.
So far, each Harambee Stars player has earned about Ksh5 million from President Ruto’s pledges.
