Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has reacted to Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwour, alias Jalang’o’s, recent endorsement of his bid for Nairobi governor in 2027.

Taking to his official social media channels on Friday, July 18, 2025, Babu reposted a video of Jalang’o endorsing him and declared that all his opponents were unworthy.

“All our opponents are unworthy,” Babu Owino said.

Jalang’o’s endorsement

While speaking to Alex Mwekideu, Jalang’o said that Babu will become Nairobi’s governor in 2027, serving only one term before stepping aside as he pursues his dream of becoming Kenya’s president.

Babu’s leadership

Apart from Jalang’o, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya also endorsed Babu to vie for the position.

In a post shared on his X account on Monday, July 14, 2025, Salasya publicly declared that Babu Owino will become the next Nairobi Governor in the 2027 General Election.

“In our formation, Hon @HEBabuOwino will be the Governor of Nairobi. Mimi kama Rais na sauti ya ukweli nimeweka mkono. We are all risk takers,” Salasya wrote.

This endorsement has added more weight to the growing speculation about Babu Owino’s next political move. Although he has not officially declared his bid for the Nairobi governor seat, Babu has, over the past months, hinted at aiming even higher, the presidency.

In November 2024, Babu Owino sparked national conversation when he hinted that he would vie for the presidency and suggested Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his running mate.

“Don’t be cheated, this is where the future is. All Kenyans are advised to follow the duo. We will be there no matter what. Big things coming up,” Babu said at the time via X.

A month later, in December 2024, Babu expressed confidence that he could easily beat President William Ruto in the 2027 race if they were both on the ballot.

“In 2027 ukiniweka kwa debe na uweke William Ruto, hiyo ni asubuhi tumemaliza iyo maneno,” he said in a post that stirred reactions across political circles.

During a live interview on a local TV station on February 14, 2025, the youthful legislator further emphasised that he is more than ready to lead Kenya. He said he is highly qualified for any political position in the country, including that of President.

“I am overqualified in this nation. My age mates are already presidents. Look at Burkina Faso, the gentleman is 36 years old and is already the president. I am overqualified to be the President of the Republic of Kenya,” he stated.
