‘I am overqualified to be the president of Kenya’ – Babu Owino

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has declared that he is overqualified for any political position in the country, including the presidency.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Wednesday, February 14, 2025, the outspoken legislator said his age mates in other countries were already leading nations, citing Burkina Faso’s 36-year-old president as an example.
Babu Owino emphasized that he possesses all the necessary qualities to lead Kenya at the highest level. He pointed to his political expertise, passion, energy, intellect, and faith in God as his strongest attributes. However, the lawmaker maintained that, for now, his priority remains serving the people of Embakasi East.
“I am overqualified in this nation, my age mates are already presidents. Look at Burkina Faso, the gentleman is 36 years old and is already a president. I am overqualified to be the president of the Republic of Kenya. I have all the instruments necessary: the political acumen available, the passion and energy, and the third thing I have is the intellect, and the most important thing that I have, is God. I am overqualified to be: a President, Governor and a member of the National Assembly. For now, the most important thing and urgent is to work for my people,” Babu Owino stated.
The legislator was recently ranked as the best-performing MP in Kenya. A survey conducted by research firm Infotrak placed him at the top with an overall performance score of 72%.
The survey, detailed in the Countrytrak Performance Index 2024, covered all 47 counties, 290 constituencies, and 1,450 wards. It included feedback from 39,795 participants across the country.
Infotrak CEO Angela Ambitho praised Babu Owino for his dedication to tracking his performance and ensuring he meets the expectations of his constituents. She noted that he frequently engages the research firm to assess his leadership and identify areas for improvement.
“Babu is very clear about numbers…Every quarter he engages us to find out how his constituents feel about his leadership and areas he can improve on,” Ambitho said.
Babu Owino eyes presidency
In November 2024, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino hinted at his intention to vie for the presidency in the upcoming elections, with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his running mate. His announcement, which he shared on X account, was accompanied by a statement urging Kenyans to rally behind them.
“Don’t be cheated, this is where the future is. All Kenyans are advised to follow the duo. We will be there no matter what. Big things coming up,” Babu Owino stated.

Additionally, in a separate post made in December 2024, Babu Owino expressed confidence in his ability to defeat President William Ruto if they were to face off in the 2027 general election.
“In 2027 ukiniweka kwa debe na uweke William Ruto, hiyo ni asubuhi tumemaliza iyo maneno,” he declared.
