A Nairobi court has ordered Embakasi MP Babu Owino to be teated at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.

This is after the MP, who is in police detention awaiting bail for shooting a DJ, failed to appear in court for a hearing in another case where he is accused of incitement to violence.

He was slated to appear before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot but prosecution said they could not produce him in court since he has been unwell.

Babu’s lawyer said the MP is suffering from chest pains and requested for him to be allowed to access to treatment at the remand prison.

In the incitement case, Babu Owino, whose given name is Paul Ongili, was charged with two counts of subversion and uttering abusive words against President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.

The charge sheet stated that on September 24, 2017, at a rally in Kawangware, he uttered words calculated to excite disaffection against the Presidency.

He also faces an alternative charges of incitement to violence and uttering words calculated to lead to disobedience of lawful authority.

Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot set the incitement case for mentioning on February 3, 2020.
