17-year old boy shot dead in Huruma following scuffle between police and civilians

A 17 year-old boy lost his life yesterday after he was hit by a stray bullet in Kiamaiko near Huruma Mosquie, Nairobi.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Haila A Sanake died when he was caught up in a shooting incident that occurred at around 8pm after a scuffle ensued between police and members of the public following the arrest of a suspicious civilian.

According to the police report, detectives from DCI Pangani were on mobile patrol in the area when they encountered a suspicious motor vehicle.

“Shooting incident report via OB 70/09/09/2021 at 2035hrs. It occurred at around 1730 hours within Kiamaiko area near Huruma mosque at Njungunas Hotel slaughter way map reference 134061 about 1.5 South West of the station. It was reported by one Branu Boku Cheme of mobile number 0729 and a resident of Huruma that his cousin/brother known as Haila A Sanake aged approximately 17-years had been shot,” the police report read in part.

“Upon stopping the said Motor vehicle the driver alighted and a scuffle ensued where by members of the public mobilised themselves and begun hurling stones to the alleged officers prompting them to shoot in the air,” the police report read.

It’s then that the stray bullet hit 17-year-old Sanake who was rushed to Jumia Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival and the scene of crime documented by police.

The body is lying at Jumia Hospital awaiting transfer and an autopsy.
