Roots Party deputy presidential candidate Justina Wamae has said that she will smoke bhang for the first time in her life on August 10 if they win this year’s General Elections.

Speaking during the Deputy Presidential debate, Wamae said that smoking will be aimed at ‘purifying’ the country.

“I have never smoked marijuana and I will never. Our focus is on CBD which gives as Industrial Hemp. If you pick a leaf and chew it, it will only give you a detox,” Wamae said.

Wamae however agreed that smoking marijuana has negatively affected many youth through mental illnesses, promising that it will be regulated.

“It’s true that people get mental illnesses from consumption of Marijuana. But in the first place, many people have mental challenges because of unemployment and high cost of living,” she added.

Apart from the medicinal value, Wamae said that hemp (cannabis sativa) can be used to produce edibles such as cooking oil and flour.

“For a Kenyan who can’t afford a packet of unga (flour), I want to tell them, marijuana also gives flour, we can look at the alternatives. Hemp produces animal feed. We are promising Kenyans, ‘kutakuwa na maziwa ya Roots na mayai ya Roots’ because the animal feed will be affordable,” she said.

Wamae also blamed the current leaders for the problems facing the country, accusing them of failing to look at the future.

“I respect the other leaders but what sets us apart is that they have been here for thirty years telling us the same narrative without being responsive to the youth of this country,” she added.

She will face Azimio la Umoja’s Martha Karua, United Democratic Alliance’s Rigathi Gachagua and Agano’s Ruth Mutua in the ballot on August 9, 2022.
