Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has opened up on the reasons he has never held talks with President William Ruto since the elections last year.

Speaking moments after police raided his son Jomo’s home in Karen, Uhuru said that Ruto had not shown interest in talking with him.

“You have a tête-à-tête with somebody who wants to have a tête-à-tête with you. He (Ruto) has not shown any indication that he wants to talk to me. As a retired person, why should I look for somebody who doesn’t want to talk to me?” Uhuru said.

Uhuru challenged Ruto to listen to the people and govern according to the wishes of the people, instead of looking for scapegoats.

“When you are a government, you are elected to govern in accordance with the wishes of the people. Why don’t they deal with the issues and concerns Kenyans are raising? That’s what they should be dealing with, not looking for scapegoats,” Uhuru stated.

Uhuru has also accused the government of trying to take his party Jubilee, a move he termed a “coup”.

“My plan was to surrender my party, but what I completely rejected was the coup that was planned by this government to take over my party forcefully,” he added.

By the time of going to press, the government had not responded to the alleged attack.
