TIFA: 59% of Kenyans want Uhuru to avoid politics and enjoy his retirement

At least 59 per cent of Kenyans want former President Uhuru Kenyatta to avoid politics and enjoy his retirement, a study released by TIFA has shown.

The study shows that 36 per cent want the former President to stay politically active and support politicians and policies that he agrees with.

However, five per cent of Kenyans are unsure of what should be Uhuru’s next move.

70 per cent of Kenya Kwanza supporters opine that the former President should avoid politics and enjoy his retirement and keep active in his family businesses if he wants while 26 per cent believe he should stay active in politics. The rest of Kenya Kwanza supporters are undecided.

51 per cent of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party supporters believe that Uhuru should stay active in politics while 45 per cent want him to retire entirely from politics.

Politically ‘neutral’s’ views on Uhuru retirement

59 per cent of Kenyans who claim to be politically neutral want the former President to retire from politics while 31 per cent want him to stay active in politics. The remaining 10 per cent are not decided.

A majority (70 per cent) from Uhuru’s home turf, Mt Kenya, want him to retire from politics while 28 per cent want him to shun politics.

Only Nyanza and Lower Eastern have a majority wanting him to remain active in politics at 51 per cent and 50 per cent respectively.
