Police officers in Trans Nzoia County are investigating an incident where unknown people murdered a Kenyatta University female student before dumping her body in KCC forest.

Confirming the incident, Kwanza Sub-county Police Commander James Odera said the student, who was attached to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kitale Campus, was murdered in cold blood and robbed of her mobile phone.

“Her body was discovered by people who were collecting firewood. The body is still fresh indicating that she was murdered earlier today,” Odera said.

The police boss said the deceased’s legs were tied using a dust coat while her arms were tied using her sweater.

“We found her identify card at the scene. Her legs and arms were tied. Her neck was also tied using her hair,” he added.

The student’s mobile sim car and study materials were also found at the scene.

“Our preliminary investigation indicates that her mobile phone was stolen because her sim card was discovered at the scene; we’re yet to find out if other valuable were stollen from her,” Odera added.

The officer called on students, who use the busy Kitale-Kachibora highway, to be very vigilant and to ensure they walk in teams especially around the dangerous forest.

“This is an incident that we can’t take it lightly. We also ask our students especially girls to avoid walking alone moreso at night because that is making themselves easy targets,” he cautioned.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
