Police in Kitengela are holding a 27-year-old man accused of beating his wife to death.

It is reported that on the evening of September 1, 2022, the man said to be a drug addict, was involved in a fight with his 21-year-old wife before she succumbed to injuries inflicted using blunt objects.

According to neighbours, they heard the woman screaming for help inside their mabati (iron sheet) house that was closed from the inside.

Neighbours were forced to break into the house where they found the man beating the woman who was then unconscious. She, unfortunately, succumbed to injuries shortly before being rushed to hospital.

The agitated neighbours held the husband-turned-murderer before handing him over to the police who promptly responded to the incident.

Confirming the incident, Isinya sub-county police commander Ancient Kaloki said the murder suspect is being interrogated over the incident.

“We are holding the suspect for further interrogation. It is uncalled for to end a life,” Kaloki said.

Kaloki thanked members of the public for notifying the police about the incident promptly and abiding by the rule of law as they presented the suspect to the police instead of lynching him.

“I thank members of the public for not taking the law into their hands. The incident is heart-wrecking and it takes a lot of patience to allow the law to take its course,” Kaloki added.

Heartbroken neighbours say the youthful couples frequently engage in fights.

“It is so sad that such a young woman has died in the hands of her husband. The two engaged in a lot of abusive language and fights. It has now ended tragic,” Ann Mbese, a neighbour, said.
