Police arrest suspect linked to murder of his friend whose body was found in pit latrine

Police in Nanyuki have arrested a man linked to the murder of his friend under unclear circumstances.

The suspect identified as John Mwangi was arrested in Nanyuki, Laikipia County where he was hiding after committing the heinous act.

According to a police report, Mwangi is said to have killed 31-year-old Stephen Murimi and disposed of his body in a pit latrine.

Moments before his death, Murimi was reported missing on Saturday, June 11.

Owing to the long-term friendship between the two, police visited the suspect’s home to check on Murimi’s whereabouts.

Upon visiting, they were shocked to discover that the latrine was covered with soil despite being full, raising suspicions.

“When we got to the suspect’s place we found some disturbing signs where he had tried filling the pit latrine which was not yet filled. We suspected that he might be “police stated.

Confirming the arrest, Kirinyaga County Commissioner Mathew Mang’ira stated that investigations were still ongoing so as to establish the motive behind the murder.

“Investigations have been launched to know why the suspect might have killed the deceased. We found him in Nanyuki where he was hiding after he fled from Mwea,” he stated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was hit by a blunt object.
