Normal operations resume on Nairobi Expressway after accident cleared

Normal operations have resumed on the Nairobi Expressway after an accident which happened at the Southern Bypass exit was cleared.

In a statement, Moja Expressway, the company which runs Nairobi Expressway, said that the accident was cleared swiftly by the police and the Road Asset and Corridor Management.

“We wish to inform you that a recent accident at K13 on the Nairobi Expressway (Southern Bypass) has been cleared by the Police and Road Asset and Corridor Management (RACM). Normal traffic operations have resumed,” Moja Expressway stated.

The accident which happened on Monday in the morning hours occurred just after Isuzu Motors, involving multiple vehicles, with one overturned and obstructing the majority of the lanes.

A video shared online showed at least three cars involved in the accident, with one overturned blocking the inner lane of the road.

There were no fatalities in the accident, but K24 Digital understands that several could have been injured.

The Nairobi Expressway, a 27-kilometre toll road, connects the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Nairobi’s Westlands area. The road seeks to decongest Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way.

The road has 11 interchanges at Mlolongo, Standard Gauge Railway, JKIA, Eastern Bypass, Southern Bypass, Capital Centre, Haile Selassie Avenue, Museum Hill, Westlands, and James Gichuru Road.
