The late ex-President Mwai Kibaki has finally been laid to rest at his Munyage home in Othaya, Nyeri county.

Kibaki’s body was lowered to the grave in a private burial ceremony that only included his close family members and a select number of guests.

The ex-Head of State was laid to rest beside the grave of his late wife Mama Lucy Kibaki.

After his requiem mass at the Othaya Approved School grounds, Kibaki’s body was transported to his home in a state funeral procession for the exclusive ceremony.

Upon arrival at his home, the departed ex-President was accorded military honours complete with a 19-gun salute.

Kibaki was accorded the gun salute in honour of his role as a five star general and the commander in chief of Kenya’s defence forces.

The ceremony also included a committal prayer, a musical tribute, singing of the national anthem and a floral tribute.
