Statements continue to pour in congratulating William Ruto on his election as Kenya’s 5th President.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu on Tuesday, August 16, wished the President-elect the best of luck as he takes over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
While lauding Kenyans for a peaceful process, the Heads of State pledged to work together with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader and strengthen ties with Kenya.
“On behalf of all Ugandans, I congratulate Your Excellency William Ruto upon your election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya.
“Further to my telephone call last night upon your victory, I wish to reassure you of Uganda’s commitment to continue partnering with Kenya in advancing regional and continental agenda through the East African Community, African Union and other multilateral platforms,” Museveni said in a statement.
“Our bilateral cooperation will score tremendous achievements and I look forward to working more closely with you. God bless Kenya. God bless East Africa,” he added.

On her part, Suluhu said: “I congratulate the people of Kenya on their peaceful general election and the subsequent announcement of William Ruto as President-elect. We look forward to continue working together with our brothers and sisters in Kenya to strengthen our historically close ties. Tuko pamoja (We’re together).”

William Ruto beats Raila Odinga
The seasoned politician was declared the winner of the presidential election with 7,176, 141 votes, which is 50.49 per cent of the total votes cast.
The country’s Deputy President narrowly beat Azimio One Kenya coalition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who garnered 48.5 per cent of the vote.
Other leaders who have sent messages of goodwill to the president-elect include Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa, new Somalia President Hassan Mohamud, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, and former President of Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo.
