CAVB Women’s Championship: Ruto delivers heartfelt message to Malkia Strikers ahead of decisive final

President William Ruto has thrown his weight behind the national women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, challenging the volleyball queens to finish the job and bring home the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship title in their upcoming final clash against arch-rivals Egypt.
In a stirring message sent directly to the squad ahead of the high-stakes showdown on Friday, September 4, 2026, Ruto lauded the team for their dominant display throughout the tournament, following their emphatic 3–0 sweep over Cameroon in the semi-finals on Thursday, September 3, 2026, to punch their ticket to the final.
Proud Kenyan moment
“We are proud of the outstanding performance of our Malkia Strikers at the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship,” Ruto said. “The commanding 3-0 victory over Cameroon, which secured a place in the final, was a proud moment for our country.”
Kenya enters the final as the continent’s undisputed volleyball powerhouse, seeking to add an 11th continental crown to their record tally. He reminded the players of the rich tradition they carry on their shoulders, urging them to channel the resilience and steel that has historically defined the prowess on the African stage.
“As the defending African champions, you have once again shown the winning spirit that has come to define Malkia Strikers,” the president noted. “As you take this final step, know that the nation stands firmly behind you.”
With millions of Kenyans set to flock the Kasarani Indoor Arena for the final showdown against Egypt, Ruto offered a final rallying cry to inspire the team to glory:
“All the best in the finals. Make Kenya proud.”
Stakes raised
The Malkia Strikers will be aiming to seal their dominance over North African opposition and extend their golden era in African volleyball when they take to the court for the final.
The encounter comes with more at stake besides the final title crown and continental bragging rights; it also serves as a qualification pathway for the upcoming Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the United States.
Ruto’s assurances come after a heavy delegation of government officials attended the semifinals clash led by Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination. Denis Itumbi, Nairobi County Women Representative Esther Passaris.
