South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro wowed the audience with his performance skills at the National Prayer Breakfast meeting in Safari Park.

The vocal MP displayed his mastery of the keyboard as well as his dancing skills of the gospel songs that characterised the prayer event.

The male members of the choir were elegant in crisp white shirts, black trousers, and bold red ties, while their female counterparts wore matching blouses and skirts with most of them adorning red scarves.

Their songs resonated throughout the venue, capturing the essence of the annual prayer event. President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and other leaders at the VIP table joined in the singing.

Osoro’s history

Little known to some, Osoro took himself through school to become an accountant. This was after he turned down an opportunity to enrol for an Education degree programme at the University of Nairobi.

In an interview with a local media house, Osoro painted a grim picture of his upbringing and how both of his parents had died within a span of four months, leaving him and his siblings in despair.

Osoro would later pick himself up from the predicament and at one point he became a street kid in Nairobi before he was rescued by an uncle.

He went through Hill Secondary School in Kisii at the mercy of a well-wisher, Moenga Onchweri and later on moved to Nairobi after scoring a B+ in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Osoro’s success

In Nairobi, Osoro sold newspapers along Bunyala road and would make Ksh500 on a good day. His commission was Ksh5 for every copy of the newspaper sold.

He would later register a company dealing in fast-moving consumer goods that would make him a millionaire before he embarked on his political journey.

Osoro noted that through his turmoils, his wife had decided to stick with him through it all.

“I am married to a beautiful and lovely lady from Meru County who is the mother of our three sons. My wife has stood by me over the years even when I had nothing. She is my number one supporter and adviser in the many things that I do,” Osoro intimated to the local daily.
