South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has opened up about the habits he believes have helped keep his marriage strong for 17 years, saying prioritising family, respecting his wife and protecting his private life have been the foundation of their relationship.

Speaking in an interview posted on Saturday, August 1, 2026, the lawmaker revealed that he married his wife in 2009 and credited a few simple but consistent practices for helping them maintain a strong marriage.

Osoro said one of the most important rules he has followed throughout his marriage is avoiding spending nights away from home unless there is a compelling reason.

He explained that even after attending political engagements outside Nairobi, he prefers catching a flight home instead of spending the night in a hotel whenever possible.

“Why should I sleep in a hotel when I can come home?” he posed.

The MP said there is nothing more fulfilling than sleeping in his own bed and waking up beside his family.

Prioritising family time

The legislator also revealed that he prefers getting home early to spend quality time with his wife and children.

According to Osoro, he rarely stays out beyond 10 p.m., saying he enjoys watching his children do their homework, relaxing at home and sharing meals with his family.

He added that he also avoids eating out whenever possible, choosing instead to return home for meals because he values the time spent with his loved ones.

Respecting his wife

Osoro said mutual respect has played a significant role in their marriage over the years.

He revealed that despite disagreements being inevitable in any relationship, he has never shouted at or physically assaulted his wife.

Instead, he said they discuss any issues privately, away from their children, before moving on.

“We talk about it and finish it,” he said, adding that life is too short to hold onto conflicts.

Keeping family away from the spotlight

The MP also explained why he has deliberately kept his wife away from social media and political events despite his high-profile career.

He said protecting his family from public scrutiny has been one of his guiding principles, noting that his wife prefers living a private life.

“Protect your family from your public life. Guard your family at all costs,” Osoro advised.

He added that while politics comes with constant public attention, he believes keeping his family out of the spotlight has contributed to the stability of his marriage over the past 17 years.
