Former President Moi’s daughter, June Moi is dead

Former President Daniel Moi’s last-born daughter, June Moi Chebet, has died at 60.

The family confirmed that June on the morning of Thursday, April 11, 2024. The cause of death is yet to be made public.

Following her demise, the family has requested privacy as it comes to terms with her death.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our beloved, June Chebet Moi this morning. At this time of grief, we request your prayers and privacy as we the family come to terms with the tragic loss of our sister. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” a statement shared by the family reads in parts.

June Chebet was Moi’s adopted daughter and the last born out of his eight children.

Condolence messages from various leaders including President William Ruto poured in for the family.

In his message, the Head of State expressed his heartfelt condolences and prayed for the family to have strength as it navigates the trying times.

“My heartfelt condolences to the family of the late President Daniel Arap Moi over the loss of June Chebet Moi. May God give you strength at this difficult time. Rest In Peace June,” he said.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja also joined the president in commiserating with the family.

“Gideon Moi, pole sana to you and the wider family on the loss of your sister June. May God grant you strength and comfort. Poleni,” Sakaja wrote.
