Police have launched investigations after a body of a 67-year-old woman was found in a gold mine pit in Hamisi, Vihiga County.
The body was discovered on Friday, July 15, 2022, inside the 12 feet foot pit.
Preliminary investigations indicate the elderly woman was killed by his husband Reuben Shumba, 67, and his son Caleb Shumba, 35, before they dumped the body in the pit.
Confirming the incident, Muhudu Location Chief Wilface Pali said the couple had a domestic quarrel before the woman was found dead.
The body was discovered by the deceased’s son.
“It is believed there was an argument before the incident. The husband had gone to work and he believed the money he was given was not enough as the wife had requested money for food,” Pali said.
“The altercation between the two began when she asked for money to buy food. They were fighting and when the son was notified of what had happened and went home, they started assaulting his mother. It’s believed that the husband took part in the beating,” he added.
The residents informed the chief who notified the police who launched a manhunt for the two that led to their arrest.
The two are being interrogated as the police continue with the investigation.
The body of the deceased is being preserved at Mbale Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
In another incident in Tassia, Embakasi, Nairobi, police are investigating the death of a foreman who was allegedly hit by a mortar trough after it slipped from the fourth floor of a hoisting crane.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, 26-year-old Samuel Aliwa was pronounced dead on arrival at Mama Lucy Hospital on Sunday, July 17, 2022.
“While at the construction site, the mortar trough slid and hit him. He was pronounced dead when they got to the hospital,” stated the police report.
The body is lying at Mama Lucy Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
