Vihiga senator Osotsi raises alarm over threats sent to his phone

The vocal Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has claimed he is being threatened over his firm stance in executing his oversight role.

Osotsi revealed that some individuals have been sending him threatening text messages, urging him to stop being tough on the Vihiga County executive.

While addressing a congregation in Sabatia Sub-county, as reported by K24 Digital fact checker on Monday, February 2, 2026, Osotsi vowed not to succumb to threats or intimidation of any kind.

“I am being threatened because I am playing my oversight role. Some people are sending threatening text messages to my phone, warning me to stop,” Osotsi said.

He explained that voters elected him as Vihiga Senator specifically to provide oversight and accountability.

Osotsi said he would have failed in his duties if he did not properly oversee the county executive.

“I am keen on my oversight role, and every leader should focus on his or her mandate to ensure that Kenyans, and the people of Vihiga in particular, receive services and development,” he said.

The senator noted that the Vihiga County executive has numerous audit queries that must be thoroughly interrogated.

He cited alleged losses amounting to millions of shillings at the Vihiga Amatsi Water Company.

According to Osotsi, the water company loses millions of shillings that end up in the hands of a few individuals.

He said the Senate has asked the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the suspected syndicate.

“Vihiga County has many audit queries that the Senate is interrogating.

Several questions have been raised by the Office of the Auditor General regarding the governor’s official residence, the Vihiga County Referral Plaza, and other expenditures,” Osotsi said.

He added that Governor Wilber Ottichilo is expected to appear before the Senate next week to respond to audit queries on the management of the Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Meanwhile, the grilling of the Vihiga County government over the Ksh5 million housewarming expenditure continues to raise questions among residents.
