Police in West Ngosini village, Makueni county are investigating an incident where a man committed suicide minutes after attacking his wife with a machete.
Confirming the incident, the area chief, Hollins Mutisya, said the two were sorting their differences before the man attacked his wife.
“In the process of sorting their differences the man broke his wife’s hand and cut her head with a machete before setting their house on fire,” Mutisya said.
The wife who was fighting for her life after the attack suffered double pain after the man set the house ablaze.
Fortunately, she was rescued by neighbours who heard distress calls and rushed her to Makueni hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Mutisya said the two who were living together had been married for two months.
He pleaded with couples to seek other means of solving disputes rather than attacking one another.
“Couples should always seek help from other family members or from the government offices to avoid harming each other” Mutisya added.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Makueni mortuary.
