Makueni CEC Sonia Nzilani set to be laid to rest

The funeral of the late Makueni County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Tourism, Marketing, Industry and Culture, Sonia Nzilani, is currently taking place at her home in Makindu.
The body of the late Nzilani was collected from Montezuma funeral home in Machakos town and taken to Makueni Governor’s office on Saturday, November 29, 2025, where a brief requiem mass was conducted before proceeding to the final send-off at her home in Yinzau village, Makindu.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and her deputy, Lucy Mulili, are present at the ceremony that had drawn thousands of mourners from across the county.
Postmortem results done on Monday, November 24, 2025, indicated that Nzilani died of cardiac tamponade.
The family doctor who did the postmortem alongside government pathologist Catherine Waithera said the late Nzilani’s heart had burst and leaked blood, resulting in pressure around the heart, leading to her death.
“Cardiac tamponade occurs when blood or fluids build up in the pericardium, preventing the heart from functioning effectively,” said Mutuku.

Mutuku disclosed that Nzilani, who died at the age of 45, had been living with the condition since she was 33 years old.
