Remains believed to be of Kevin Mwendwa Michael, who went missing in 2017, were on July 25, 2022, discovered in a pit latrine in Mukaa, Kilome Makueni County.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Mwendwa’s mother reported that the family had been informed that their kin was killed and buried in a used pit latrine.
Officers from Salama Police Station visited the scene and the remains were found in the 7 feet pit which had been covered by bricks.
“The mother, Margaret Ndunge reported that they heard information that their son one KEVIN MWENDWA MICHAEL who went missing since the year 2017 was killed and buried in a used pit latrine,” the police report read in part.
“Officers proceeded to the scene and found an unconstructed pit latrine covered with bricks on top. They removed the bricks and found remains of a human being bones buried in a seven feet pit,” the report continued.
Makueni police waiting for court order to exhume remains
The scene has been secured and the police are awaiting a court order for the exhumation of the remains.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the killing as the police continue with their investigations.
Early February this year, Police in Laikipia exhumed the body of a two-year-old girl who was killed and secretly buried by her step-father.
The suspect Hudson Nyamwamba Oburi buried the girl 20 meters from his home after he stashed the body in a sack.
His wife reported to the police after she was threatened not to reveal what transpired.
“I had gone to wash clothes in the river and when I came back I found the child dead. My husband told me that she fell from the Bodaboda and landed on her stomach. She was not alive. He held my mouth and told me not to scream and took her dug a grave and buried her,” Lister Onjeri the wife of the deceased told the police.
The incident happened in 2020 but the exhuming happened in 2022 to allow the police to investigate what killed her as they continued with their probe.
