With less than 45 days to the August polls, Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has lauded Roots Party presidential flag bearer George Wajackoyah.
In a Twitter post on Sunday, June 26, Mutua praised Wajackoyah’s presidential bid saying his radical manifesto is giving youths hope.
According to Mutua, the Roots Party presidential flag bearer has drastically changed the dynamics of the political system adding that society needs to pay attention to his way of thinking.
“Prof. George Wajackoyah is not just a presidential candidate. He’s a phenomenon. He’s giving hope to the youth who feel hopeless. If a society was to lose everything, it must never lose hope. Wajackoyah offers a breath of fresh air. He speaks to the aspirations of the youth,” Mutua said.
The MCSK CEO, who hosted Wajackoyah for dinner, opined that the youths in the country were quickly impressed with his presidential bid because of his philosophy that allows them to think outside the box.
“This guy is a virtual study in disruption. I am fascinated by his unique ideas and life’s philosophy.
Wajackoyah exposes our soft underbelly as a society. We are quick to judge. We love the normal, but to our youth, normal is boring. They want something new, something exciting, something challenging and revolutionary,” Mutua said in a Facebook post.
“Wajackoyah fills a void in our social fabric that we must address. His ideas resonate with the youth who find the system slow, unresponsive and isolationist. He represents the silent majority who feel ignored,” he added.
Wajackoyah, among the four presidential candidates cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has made controversial pledges if he secures victory in the August polls.
Among his popular talking point is the legalization of marijuana to use proceeds for the sale of bhang to settle Kenya’s skyrocketing debt.
His growing fame is causing jitters among the top political camps, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party.
Speaking on KTN News recently, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot suggested that Wajackoyah’s increasing acceptance could make it hard for the leading presidential candidates, William Ruto and Raila Odinga, to secure victory in round one.
“I have told you this Wajackoyah pushes hard enough and scores upwards of five hundred thousand votes. He can easily force a run-off. The way we are dismissing him, he is making funny promises to the youths. He is not only appealing to the youth but also the middle days and wages after every two weeks,” said Cheruiyot.
“There are areas we refer to as the base where young people sit. I have noticed that he is gaining notoriety and prominence. I have seen his posters prominently displayed and a big banner saying ‘freedom is coming,'” Cheruiyot added.
