A first-time Muguka driver yesterday lost his life after being involved in a grisly road accident involving his Probox car and a 14-seater Nissan along Embu-Highway.

The driver identified as Ewin Mukundi is reported to have been speeding while on the wrong side of the road when his newly bought Probox rammed on the matatu near Kangaru Secondary School.

According to an eyewitness, the Probox landed in a ditch that was nearby before it burst into flames.

Firefighters from Embu County Government arrived on time and put off the fire.

A close friend of Edwin explained that he had recently sold a section of his land to obtain the Probox which he was to use in transporting Muguka.

“He recently sold a parcel of his land and bought the car. He was hoping to use the car to minimize the transportation cost of Muguka,” his friend Boniface Nyaga narrated.

Confirming the accident, Embu West OCPD Julius Kiumbule said two passengers who had boarded the Matatu sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Embu level 5 Hospital.

The body was moved to Embu level 5 Hospital Morgue.

Kiumbule urged the motorists transporting Muguka and Miraa to be careful to avoid more loss of lives.

“Let the drivers be careful while on the roads to avoid more loss of life. They should observe all the traffic rules.”
