Chebukati expresses concern as Embakasi East Returning Officer goes missing

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has announced that Embakasi East Return Office disappeared without a trace.

Chebukati said that the Returning Officer (RO) Daniel Musyoka disappeared while on duty at the East African School of Aviation tallying center.

“We wish to inform the country that our returning officer for Embakasi East Mr Daniel Musyoka has been reported missing while on duty at the East African School of aviation tallying centre,” Chebukati said.

The IEBC chairman revealed that the Returning Officer was escorted from his house to the office by his bodyguard before he excused himself only to disappear without a trace.

“Reports received by the commission indicate that at around 9 am on 11th of August yesterday he was escorted from his house to the office – that’s the tallying centre by his bodyguard at around 9:45 am he excused himself to make a telephone call but did not return to the office,” Chebukati said.

Chebukati says IEBC reported matter to police

The IEBC chairman called on relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the disappearance of the Returning Officer, revealing that the commission had filed a missing person report with the police.

“A report of a missing person has been made at the Embakasi police station under occurrence book no: 24/11/8/2022. The commission is deeply concerned about this unfortunate incident and calls upon the relevant security agencies to speedily investigate this matter,” the IEBC chair said.
