A boda boda rider was on Monday, October 10, 2022, killed by his colleague at Lwanda Awiti market in Ndhiwa constituency, Homa Bay county following a dispute over a lover.
Ndhiwa sub-county police commander Paul Rioba said the deceased identified as Bruno Onyango was attacked by a fellow rider who accused him of engaging in a love affair with his girlfriend behind his back.
Rioba said the two met at the trading centre and engaged in a bitter exchange before the assailant known as Nicholas Okeyo allegedly hit Onyango with stones.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the suspect picked a stone and hit Onyango on the forehead before he fell to the ground. On the ground, the suspect took two other stones and hit the deceased on the stomach and another one on the chest.
“We tried to resuscitate him with first aid without success. He became unconscious after being hit with stones,” a resident said.
West Kwabwai Location Chief Joseph Makoteng’ said the 22-year-old victim was pronounced dead on arrival at St Camillus Hospital in Sori town.
Makoteng said a preliminary investigation revealed that the two had differences which started three weeks earlier over a woman.
“The suspect tracked down Onyango and found him at Lwanda Awiti market before confronting him. They engaged in a physical fight before the suspect picked up stones and hit the victim on the head,” Makoteng alleged.
The administrator said the assailant disappeared after the incident.
The deceased body was taken to Manyatta hospital mortuary in Ndhiwa .
