Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya coalition leaders have served Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with an ultimatum to reinstate the commission’s Deputy CEO Ruth Kulundu.

The outfit is demanding the commission to bring back Kulundu within 24 hours threatening to take stern action.

“That IEBC immediately reinstates Ruth Kulundu to her rightful position of deputy CEO within the next 24 hours. Failure to which we shall take stern action against Wafula Chebukati and Hussein Marjan,” part of a joint statement read by Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang stated.

The legislators who had organized a peaceful protest outside IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers claim the commission’s Chairman Wafula Chebukati and CEO Marjan Hussein are corroding with benefits earned through the electoral system in Kenya since 2007.

They accused them of serving the interests of the executive.

“While their actions remain heroic in the eyes of beneficiaries, the Azimio leadership puts the duo on notice for eroding the gains we have made in transforming the electoral system in Kenya,” the Ruaraka MP claimed.

They argue that Kulundu’s interdiction is aimed at intimidating commissioners opposing Chebukati and Marjan.

“It is part of a well-orchestrated scheme to intimidate public officers who stand by the rule of law but also question upholding free and fair elections,” Ojwang said.
