UDA announces party nominations schedule ahead of by-elections

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally announced the schedule for party nominations ahead of upcoming by-elections in several parts of the country.
In a notice issued by the ruling party on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the party stated that the nominations will be held on September 20, 2025.
“NOTICE is hereby given that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations shall be held on 20 September 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for nomination by registering through the UDA party portal,” read the notice in part.
The by-elections will cover six constituencies, including Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja; the Senate seat for Baringo County; and 18 wards across counties such as Samburu, Nandi, Tana River, Garissa, Nairobi, Kakamega, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Machakos, Narok, Kajiado, Uasin Gishu, Nyamira, and Turkana.
According to the nomination fee schedule, aspirants will be required to pay Ksh250,000 for parliamentary and Senate seats, while female candidates, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will pay a discounted fee of Ksh125,000. Those seeking Member of County Assembly (MCA) tickets will pay Ksh50,000, with women, youth, and PWDs required to pay Ksh25,000.

ODM’s statement
This comes shortly after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) called on its members in select regions to verify their membership ahead of the upcoming by-elections announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The party released a statement on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, listing constituencies and wards where members must confirm their details to take part in the electoral process.
ODM stressed that membership verification is already underway and urged members in these areas to check and confirm their status ahead of the by-elections.
To verify their membership, members can dial 483036# or visit the party’s official membership website.
The party noted that its membership registration portal has been temporarily disabled until after the by-elections, meaning no new members will be accepted during this period.
ODM also emphasised that members will not be allowed to change registration centres while the verification exercise is ongoing.
“Members in those areas are further informed that the membership registration portal has been disabled; hence, there will be no new registration until after the completion of the by-elections,” the party stated.
ODM said the measures aim to ensure that only verified members participate, streamlining the process and maintaining fairness.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in managing membership ahead of crucial electoral exercises.
