Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Luis Enrique has acknowledged the threat posed by their UEFA Champions League semi-final return-leg hosts, Bayern Munich, labelling the Germans as the best team they have faced.

In an interview on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the Spaniard mirrored the sentiments of the Bayern coach regarding going all out to win the return leg and seal a spot in the final. Arsenal awaits the winner following their victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

Best motivation

“We are going to play in Munich, and we will look to be more competitive than ever. Rafa Nadal once said that at one point in his career, his matches against [Roger] Federer and [Novak] Djokovic were the best motivation for him. That is what we want,” he told UEFA.

“We admire Bayern, but it’s a motivation to be better. Tomorrow we’re going to try to overcome a team that plays sensationally.”

The Parisians will be looking to protect a slim one-goal lead after edging Vincent Kompany’s team in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, but Enrique is not placing much emphasis on that narrow advantage.

Enrique on Bayern’s threat

With the opposition boasting an in-form trio of Luis Diaz, Harry Kane, and Michael Olise and playing on their home turf at the Allianz Arena, PSG has their work cut out for them. The trio has scored more than 100 goals among them heading into this historic clash, where they seek to secure their first Champions League final appearance since 2020.

However, Enrique has tipped this top-tier attacking prowess to provide the necessary motivation for his players to prove they can handle any team and live up to their defending champions’ acclaim.

“When you play this type of match, against an opponent who is undoubtedly the strongest team we have ever faced, the first thing I want to convey is that while we have a one-goal advantage, that means nothing in football. We have the experience from last year. We are always looking to live up to the expectations of our supporters,” he stated.

The clash will determine the team that advances to the final to face off against Arsenal in the competition’s final scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Budapest, Hungary.
