AFC Leopards welcome Bernard Mwalala and new players to fuel FKF-PL title push

AFC Leopards have officially extended a welcome to their new technical bench additions and player acquisitions ahead of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season, which kicks off in a week’s time.
As part of their summer transfer business, Ingwe have roped in over seven new players to reinforce the squad for a rejuvenated title campaign following a near-miss runner-up finish to arch-rivals Gor Mahia last season.
Among those presented to the fans during Saturday’s unveiling gala were former Kariobangi Sharks duo Kevin Luke Otiala and Sebastainos Wekesa.
Others include Ugandan Taddeo Lwanga from reigning Ugandan champions Vipers SC, who has been roped in to provide veteran leadership and steel in midfield, as well as Adama Kanteh.
Reunion at the Den
The club’s restructuring also extends to the technical bench, with former Harambee Stars forward Bernard Mwalala joining the ranks as first assistant coach to head coach Fred Ambani.
Following the official unveiling ceremony on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Nyayo National Stadium, the club extended a warm official welcome to the former Bandari FC and Shabana FC tactician:
“With a wealth of experience both on the pitch and in the dugout, we welcome former Kenyan international Bernard Mwalala as the club’s first assistant coach. As a proven winner, we look forward to his expertise and winning mentality as we embark on the new season,” the club said.
AFC Leopards Chairman Boniface Ambani also joined in welcoming Mwalala. In a message posted on his official Facebook page, Ambani—who played alongside Mwalala for both the Kenya national team and Tanzanian giants Young Africans (Yanga SC)—termed Mwalala’s arrival at the Den as timely.
Old friends, new ambitions
“Ben Shichangi Mwalala, I welcome you to The Den,” Ambani said. “I believe in your capabilities. May the Almighty God guide you, Fred, and the entire technical bench to bring the much-awaited success to this club. Karibu Nyumbani.”
Ambani also reflected nostalgically on their long-standing relationship, which dates back to their playing days in East Africa:
“Life is a journey. It takes you to the hills, mountains, valleys, down the rivers, to the sky… There are some bonds that can’t be broken. It just happens that you find yourselves having worked together successfully ages back, went your separate ways, and now find yourselves back together again.”
Leopards will kick off their Football Kenya Premier League title push against Bandari on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
