A closely contested encounter is on the cards as Nairobi United prepare to host Shabana FC in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League fixture on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, as both sides bring contrasting strengths into the tie.

Match outlook

Heading into the match, Naibois sit 10th on the log, having registered a mixed run of results in recent matches. They have scored 29 goals while conceding 25 and managed seven clean sheets so far this season.

Despite inconsistency, the hosts have shown resilience, particularly at home, where they have scored at least once in seven of their last eight matches.

On the other hand, Shabana have enjoyed a relatively stronger campaign, currently occupying 5th position. They have found the back of the net 31 times while conceding 27, boasting an impressive 13 clean sheets. Their recent form reflects a team capable of bouncing back.

Key stats

A look at the head-to-head record shows little to separate the two sides, with their most recent meeting ending in a stalemate. Statistically, Nairobi United appear slightly sharper in build-up play, with a higher number of pass attempts per match (287) compared to Shabana’s 236.

Naibois also create more chances per game (6.0 vs 4.1), suggesting a proactive attacking approach. Their shot accuracy (37 per cent) is also superior to Shabana’s 30 per cent, which could prove decisive if they capitalise on opportunities.

However, the Glamour Boys of Gusii edge ahead in attacking frequency, averaging 13.7 shots per match compared to Nairobi United’s 12.9. They are also more efficient defensively, committing fewer fouls and picking up fewer yellow cards, indicating a more disciplined setup.

Both teams show identical aerial success rates (48 per cent), but Nairobi United hold a slight advantage in progressive passing and cross efficiency, underlining their intent to control possession and dictate play.

Individual brilliance

Nairobi United defender Kevin Osanya has been outstanding this season. Osanya has the second most interceptions and balls won for Naibois in the league so far. He also ranks third in clearance in the team. In 23 matches, he has scored two goals, made 46 clearances, 27 interceptions and won 18 balls.

For Shabana, defender Wycliffe Omondi has been pivotal. In 24 outings, he has scored five goals, made 128 clearances, 39 interceptions and 28 blocks.

Omondi has scored three of the four goals Shabana have scored in their four games in March 2026. This analysis paints a picture of a tough match pitting the two sides on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Elsewhere, two community clubs, AFC Leopards and Murang’a Seal, will also lock horns in what has been touted to be an entertaining encounter.

Ingwe will be keen to grab the three points and pile pressure on arch-rivals Gor Mahia, who settled for a goalless draw with Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
