Outrage as viral video captures daylight robbery as men ambush woman near Globe Roundabout

A chilling video showing a woman being ambushed and robbed in broad daylight near Nairobi’s Globe Roundabout has sparked public outrage, highlighting the growing safety fears among city residents.
The undated seven-second clip recorded by a motorist captures the victim walking along the stone retaining wall near the junction. Two young men suddenly approach her from behind.
One attacker pins her against the wall and grabs her, trying to force her to hand over her phone and bag. As the woman screams and attempts to fight him off, a second robber joins in, overpowering her and snatching her items before both men run away.
Bystanders ignore her calls for help
What has upset many Kenyans is how onlookers and motorists failed to intervene as the robbery took place right before their eyes. In the video, several vehicles drive past just inches away from the struggle.
A white pickup truck, a maroon saloon car, and multiple boda boda riders continue on their way without stopping. Pedestrians walking along the footpaths also keep moving, leaving the helpless woman to deal with the muggers on her own.
The video circulated rapidly on X, formerly Twitter, where Kenyans expressed anger over the lack of intervention and the increasing nerve of street criminals in the city centre.
Mosiria blames politicians for city insecurity
Reactions to the video were swift, with Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, directly faulting political leaders for the rising crime rates in the capital.
Mosiria argued that politicians often recruit and use young people during political events, only to abandon them without meaningful employment or support once the political season ends.
Mosiria emphasised that this neglect pushes idle youths into criminal gangs that terrorise city residents. He called on the National Police Service to increase foot patrols and clear out criminal hideouts around major city roundabouts.
“We cannot sit back and watch innocent citizens being terrorised in broad daylight while politicians continue with their selfish games,” Mosiria stated, adding that security agencies must track down the suspects captured in the video.
The National Police Service has previously listed Globe Cinema Roundabout and nearby Kipande Road among crime hotspots in Nairobi.
