Kenya Met predicts afternoon rains and strong winds on Wednesday, September 23

Commuters and farmers across Kenya can expect a mix of wet conditions, cool breezes, and sunny spells on September 23, 2026.
The Kenya Meteorological Department’s latest 24-hour advisory points to wet weather in western counties alongside strong winds in northern and coastal areas.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms expected in Western Kenya
Residents living in the Lake Victoria Basin and western region will need to stay prepared for wet afternoon weather.
According to the department’s advisory, “Enhanced rainfall is expected over Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisumu and Vihiga counties.”
The forecast further notes that rainfall is also expected in some parts of Kericho, Kakamega, Kisumu, Bomet, Nakuru, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Migori, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Nyandarua, Mandera, Tana River and Nyeri counties.
In areas such as Kericho, Kakamega, and Kisumu, moderate showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places in the afternoon.
Kisumu will hit a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum of 20°C, with sunrise at 6:30 am and sunset at 6:36 pm. Eldoret will see sunrise at 6:28 am and sunset at 6:34 pm.
Meanwhile, Nyandarua will record cold night conditions, dropping to a low of 10°C alongside a maximum temperature of 22°C.
Strong winds to hit Coast and Northern Kenya, Nairobi stays cool
Windy conditions will dominate several parts of northern Kenya and the coastal strip today. The meteorological service warned that “Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu Counties.”
Turkana will experience the highest temperatures in the country at 36°C, followed by Mandera at 35°C. At the coast, Mombasa will experience early morning sunny intervals after a chance of light night showers, reaching a high of 30°C and a low of 23°C.
In Nairobi, cloudy morning weather will clear into sunny intervals during the afternoon. The capital city will record a high of 25°C and a low of 14°C, with sunrise at 6:21 am and sunset at 6:28 pm.
Nakuru will record similar temperatures, between 14°C and 25°C, with afternoon light showers and thunderstorms likely in a few places.
