Cold nights expected in 11 counties as temperatures fall below 10°C

Nighttime temperatures are expected to fall below an average of 10°C in parts of 11 counties as Kenya experiences varying weather conditions between September 22 and 28, 2026.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department’s weekly minimum temperature outlook, the affected counties include Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Narok, Taita Taveta and Kajiado.
The weather agency said the low night-time temperatures will be experienced in some parts of the listed counties during the forecast period.
“Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in some parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Narok, Taita Taveta and Kajiado Counties,” Kenya Met announced.
The forecast comes as the country transitions through varying weather conditions, with some areas expected to receive rainfall while others experience relatively high daytime temperatures.
Daytime temperatures
While some areas are expected to experience chilly nights, daytime temperatures will remain high in several parts of the country.
The meteorological department said daytime maximum average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in several counties.
“Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in several counties, including Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit and Turkana,” Weatherman stated.
The contrasting temperatures are expected to result in significant differences between daytime and night-time conditions across the country during the week.
Counties to receive rainfall
The Kenya Meteorological Department also forecast rainfall in parts of several counties during the week.
These include Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Embu, Garissa, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga and Wajir.
Residents in the affected areas are therefore expected to experience changes in weather conditions, including rainfall and cooler nights in some highland and elevated areas.
The Kenya Meteorological Department’s forecast covers the period from September 22 to September 28, 2026, and provides an outlook on expected minimum and maximum temperatures as well as rainfall distribution across the country.
