Gor Mahia’s viral anthem rocks Rwanda after K’Ogalo storm CECAFA Kagame Cup final

Gor Mahia’s famous official anthems “Gor Mahia K’Ogalo!” and “K’Ogalo Nyamridhi” rented the air in Kigali, Rwanda, at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup as the Kenyan champions scored a milestone in the club’s chase for regional glory.
Charles Akonnor’s charges endured a nail-biting clash against Sudanese giants Al Hilal, edging past their fancied rivals on post-match penalties to reach the final of the 2026 edition.
The shootout victory came after the two sides could not be separated following a 1–1 draw in regulation time at the Pelé Stadium in Kigali.
It was an uphill task for the Green Army, who took a first-half lead via an own goal before being pegged back minutes later when Al Hilal’s Rwandan winger found the net. The match remained deadlocked through extra time, forcing the tie into a tense penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Byrne Omondi pulled off crucial saves during the nervy shootout to steer Gor Mahia over the line and into the final, sparking wild celebrations among the travelling fans who made the journey to Rwanda.
As captured in viral videos circulating online, the K’Ogalo faithful cheered on their team in the best way they know how, whether at home in Kenya or across international borders.
“We truly appreciate the support… Nyamridhi,” the club posted on social media alongside a video capturing the carnival atmosphere between players and fans following the exhilarating semi-final.
This achievement marks the first time since 2015 that Gor Mahia has reached the final of the regional showpiece. That legendary 2015 squad, boasting stars like Michael Olunga and Meddie Kagere, stumbled at the ultimate hurdle in a 2–0 defeat to Tanzania’s Azam FC.
Regional history in sight
Now, the victory moves Gor Mahia within touching distance of ending a 40-year wait for the Kagame Cup crown.
K’Ogalo will square off against Rayon Sports in the grand final, where the current crop of players and technical bench have a prime opportunity to write their names into the club’s rich folklore.
Rwandese side edged Jamus SC 3-1 in the second semifinal to book their ticket to the finals and a date against their Kenyan counterparts.
The final will go down on Friday, August 7, 2026.
