Gor Mahia choir maestro Taya Dok charms Ruto with song during K’Ogalo’s visit to State House

Gor Mahia choir leader Leonard Onyango, famously known as Taya Dok, lit up State House as he wowed President William Ruto and guests present during Gor Mahia’s trophy presentation at State House on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
Renowned for his composure on short notice, or probably even when unrehearsed, Taya Dok made the occasion at the House on the Hill a memorable one. This came moments after he was summoned by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya “to do something” before the president addressed the club’s delegation, led by Chairman Ambrose Rachier, alongside other senior government officials.
From the stands to State House
Setting the stage with the now-famed K’Ogalo Nyamridhi chant that has rented the airwaves in every Gor Mahia match this season, Dok promptly went into a full vibe of presidential praises as he added Ruto to the tune: “To Ruto pako Woud Ogallo, To Taya lando Woud Ogalo,” translated as “And Ruto also hails the son of Ogalo, and Taya [Dok] also proclaims Woud Ogallo.”

The crescendo came when he synchronised more praises for Ruto with Rachier, Jaro Soja and Interior PS Raymond Omolo joining to dance to the tune: “Ng’ama chayo Wuod Sugoi, rieko ne tin. Ng’ama chayo Woud Sugoi en ng’ama ofuo. Nyocha ateme gi jomoko ayudo ka tek. Pimo Ruto gi jomoko onge,” translated as “Whoever shows disdain for the son of Sugoi is an unwise person. I have tried to compare him with other people, but it is hard. Comparing Ruto to others is not possible.”
Ruto’s rewards
Whether understood by the President or not, the song seemed to have set the mood right as the goodies came flowing afterward when Ruto took the stage.

Answering the call from the team captain’s plea to ‘Weka Mawe‘ to their title-winning run, the head of state capped the visit with a Ksh10 million reward for Gor Mahia, while also pledging a KSh 100,000 reward for each member of the club as he heartily welcomed the team to the official presidential residence.
Celebrating K’Ogalo triumph
“Today we celebrate excellence, consistency, resiliency, and the power of teamwork. On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, I congratulate Gor Mahia for winning the 2025/26 FKF Premier League title,” Ruto stated in his address.
Ruto also hailed Gor Mahia as Kenya’s most successful club, noting that their latest triumph reaffirms Gor’s stature as a pillar of Kenyan football.
He further commended the club’s fan base, its management, and its supporters, who have continued to fuel the team through its journey.
