Sesko vows to focus fully on recovery from recurring shin injury

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has pledged to concentrate fully on recovering from a recurring shin problem after being ruled out of Slovenia’s upcoming international matches.
Sesko had enjoyed a promising first campaign at United, scoring 12 goals before a shin injury in May brought his season to an early conclusion. The setback also prevented him from featuring in any of the club’s pre-season friendly matches.
The Slovenia international returned to action at the beginning of the new campaign and featured in United’s opening six matches. He scored twice during that run but has now suffered another setback after experiencing a recurrence of the shin pain.

Latest setback
The latest problem forced Sesko to miss United’s 1-1 draw away to Fulham on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and also ruled him out of international duty with Slovenia.
Taking to Instagram, the 23-year-old expressed his disappointment at missing the national team fixtures while insisting that his immediate priority is to recover fully.
“I am very sorry that I will have to miss the next matches of the national team,” Sesko posted on Instagram on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
“I have always played for Slovenia and will always play with heart and pride. The most important thing now is to fully dedicate myself to recovery.
“I am already working on getting back on the field as soon as possible and helping the national team and the club again.
“I believe in our boys, and I am sure that they will show the team spirit that has always adorned us this time.
“I can’t wait to be able to wear the jersey with the national emblem again and, until then, I will be Slovenia’s biggest fan.” He said.

Sesko’s absence is a blow to both United and Slovenia, with the striker having established himself as an important attacking option since moving to Old Trafford.
United will now monitor his recovery closely as they seek to avoid another prolonged spell on the sidelines. The recurrence of the shin problem also means the club is likely to take a cautious approach to his return, with his long-term fitness taking priority.
For Slovenia, Sesko’s absence means the national side will have to continue without one of its key attacking players, while the striker will instead focus on regaining full fitness ahead of his return to club and international football.
