Cole Palmer, Manchester United duo set to withdraw from England squad

A number of English stars are set to withdraw from the Three Lions squad for the upcoming international calendar after picking up injuries.
According to reports, the Manchester United duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford are among those expected to pull out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Rashford is expected to withdraw due to a hip issue, while Mainoo is also likely to pull out following an injury scare. The midfielder was substituted late in the clash amid boos from the away stands as United battled to salvage a 1-1 draw.
Despite earning a berth in Tuchel’s latest round of international call-ups, Rashford picked up an issue against Fulham and could miss out to continue his recovery at Carrington.

“We had to bring him off, as he had a bit of an issue,” Carrick told beIN Sports at Craven Cottage. When asked if he was alright, the boss replied: “I am not sure,” speaking to club media after the Fulham game.
The gaffer also defended the 28-year-old attacker’s contribution to the team, as he remains without a goal after his opening five league games following his return from a season-long loan from Barcelona. Alongside Bruno Fernandes, Rashford created a joint team-high four chances for Manchester United during the encounter at Craven Cottage.
“Marcus was a threat,” Carrick said. “He could have had a couple of goals for us today. He’s another one who is getting himself in good positions; it’s just not quite falling for him. It will. We know Marcus. We know how to get the best out of him and will continue to do that.”
Palmer a doubt
Meanwhile, Cole Palmer is also reportedly being touted among the potential absentees for international duty. The Chelsea attacker is expected to pull out for load management and to rest during the extended international break.
Palmer has enjoyed a fine start to the season under Xabi Alonso after being snubbed by the German coach for the summer World Cup in North America.
He averages two goals and as many assists in his opening five games for Xabi Alonso’s side, even as the team is beset by defensive challenges that have seen them concede 12 goals.
Three Lions prepare to face Spain on Saturday, September 26, and the Czech Republic on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The team will also face Croatia on Saturday, October 3, and an away return fixture against the Czech Republic on Tuesday, October 6.
