Investigations into the theft incident reported during Gor Mahia’s league match against Bandari FC at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, April 19, 2026, are making steady progress, according to the club’s Secretary General Nicanor Arum.

Addressing members of the press at a Nairobi hotel on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Arum confirmed that the club has already taken a key step in assisting authorities by submitting surveillance footage from the stadium to support the ongoing investigation. The footage is expected to help police identify individuals involved in the incident and clarify how the theft occurred.

“We have handed over CCTV footage to the police, and the matter is now progressing well with investigations ongoing,” he said.

The theft incident took place during the first half of Sunday’s fixture, causing concern within the Gor Mahia camp. Several players and members of the technical staff are said to have lost personal belongings, including mobile phones, cash, and other valuables.

“An unfortunate incident happened during the first half… thieves broke into the dressing room, stealing phones and valuables belonging to our players and technical staff,” the club confirmed in a statement.

Gor Mahia endured an afternoon to forget on the same day, as the league leaders also failed to beat Bandari FC to widen the gap at the summit of the league standings.

Gor approached the clash hoping to build on their lead at the top but failed to secure a victory for the third consecutive league match, with the 0-0 stalemate leaving their title charge in significant jeopardy.

Charles Akonnor’s charges struggled to break down the visiting Dockers. This third straight game without a goal has brought their title credentials under sharp scrutiny, following a draw against Kariobangi Sharks and a defeat to Tusker FC in their previous outings.

The situation has sparked renewed calls for improved security measures at match venues, especially during high-profile fixtures that attract large crowds. Ensuring the safety of players, officials, and their belongings remains a key priority for clubs and stadium management.

Meanwhile, as investigations continue, Gor Mahia officials remain hopeful that those responsible will be identified and appropriate action taken. The club is also expected to work closely with relevant authorities and stadium management to strengthen security arrangements in future matches to prevent similar incidents.
