Kenyans planning their daily activities for September 3, 2026, can anticipate mostly dry weather across the country, alongside localised light showers and strong coastal and northern winds.
According to the official report released by the Kenya Meteorological Department and covering the 24 hours from 9:00 pm on September 2, 2026, to 9:00 pm on September 3, 2026, most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry.
However, a few areas will see light precipitation, with rainfall expected in some parts of Bungoma and Kwale counties.
Chilly nights and high temperatures in key regions
Temperature trends across the country will vary significantly between regions.
Northern areas will remain hot during the day, with Turkana recording maximum temperatures of 36°C and minimum temperatures of 24°C. Mandera will follow closely with maximum temperatures of 35°C, while Garissa will reach highs of 34°C.
In contrast, residents in Nyandarua should prepare for cold night conditions, as minimum temperatures drop to 05°C alongside maximum daytime temperatures of 21°C.
Central Highlands regions, including Nairobi, Kiambu, and Murang’a, will start the day with morning clouds before sunny intervals take over.
Nairobi will record maximum temperatures of 26°C and minimum temperatures of 14°C. Coastal residents in Mombasa can expect sunny intervals throughout the day, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 22°C to a maximum of 30°C.
Strong winds and localised rainfall expected
Wind speeds are expected to pick up across several eastern, coastal, and northern regions.
The weather department confirmed that “Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui Counties.”
For those in Kwale, morning hours will bring brief weather changes, with light showers and sunny intervals expected over few places.
Bungoma County will experience similar rain patterns later in the day, with light showers likely over few places in the afternoon, alongside daytime highs of 31°C.
Sunrise in Nairobi on September 3, 2026, will occur at 6:29 am, with sunset expected at 6:34 pm.
Mombasa will see sunrise at 6:19 am and sunset at 6:21 pm. In previous recordings between September 1, 2026, and September 2, 2026, Nyahururu registered the highest rainfall at 7.8 mm, followed by Kericho at 4.2 mm and Mtwapa at 2.9 mm.
