Ugandans on X praise Muhoozi for lifting ban on social media

Ugandan’s are in high spirits after President Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced the reopening of social media across the country.

Through a post on X on Monday, January 26, 2026, Muhoozi expressed his gratitude to the people for their “support” and “cooperation” throughout the electoral period.

He further added that it was their people’s attitude that gives them the courage to serve.

“We are releasing all social media today. I thank all the great people of Uganda for their support and cooperation throughout this electoral season. You are truly the greatest people on earth, and you give us all the courage to serve. God bless you all,” Mohoozi stated.

What Ugandans had to say

It was this message that captured the attention of many Ugandans online, who expressed their appreciation for the action.

Some of their comments include:

Kizito Aleysha: “Thank you so much, Afande 👏👏. We truly appreciate your hard work. May God bless you, too”

SS Sebunya: “Thank you for keeping the peace throughout the election period.  Salutations”

Josh Omuchwezi: “That’s why I like you, sir. I almost used VPN, but as a true and a Ugandan with good and correct ideology, I resisted.😂😂😂😂😂😂Have a blessed week, sir 🙏”

Sentogo Mark: “Thank you, sir. We are greatly happy to be back online. Indeed, we had a peaceful election. We appreciate the security forces for doing their job well. Happy Liberation Day.”

Joe Omara Makim: “Thank you so much, Afande @mkainerugaba. Ugandans of good intentions value you and appreciate your services and dedication towards our beloved country”

Others on the internet did not share the same opinion, with some questioning why the internet was shut down in the first place.

“If we are the greatest people on earth, as you’ve said, why did you feel the need to block the internet in the first place?” Keneth Agba wrote.

“Will the government compensate our data and broken relationships?” another X user, identified as Eddie, added.

It has been the norm during election cycles in Uganda to shut down the internet, and this year was not different, as the government did so in what it said was for security reasons.
