Kenyan businesswoman Joan Nyambura reveals her Ksh1M monthly savings habit

Kenyan automotive entrepreneur Joan Nyambura Mugera, popularly known as Joan Reals, has revealed her unique saving habit, saying she managed to save Ksh1 million last month and plans to save the same amount every month.

Joan shared the revelation on X on Friday, September11, 2026 while responding to medic and public figure Dr Austin Omondi, who had asked his followers how much they had managed to save.

Joan’s post means she plans to put aside another Ksh1 million every month, with the goal of reaching Ksh12 million by August 2027 to use as a down payment for an overlander.

“Last month I managed to save 1. Goal is to save 1 every month and have 12 by August 2027 as a down payment for an overlander. Inshallah,” she wrote.

She also shared an image of a Ksh1 million deposit slip dated August 31, 2026, showing a cash deposit at a local bank.

The revelation sparked reactions online, with some users praising the achievement while others wondered how she manages to set aside such a substantial amount.

From medicine to cars

Joan is known for her work in Kenya’s automotive industry, having built a career around vehicle inspections, automotive education and content creation.

She initially enrolled to study medicine at the University of Nairobi but left during her second year.

She later pursued a Diploma in Automotive Engineering at the Railways Training Institute, completing the course in November 2024.

Her interest in cars grew after she bought a Volkswagen Polo at the age of 24 and experienced repeated mechanical problems. The experience pushed her to spend more time learning about vehicles and working around garages.

Building 4Real KE

Joan eventually established 4Real KE, a platform focused on vehicle inspection and automotive consulting.

She has also built a following online through educational content covering vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, road safety and issues motorists should consider when buying used cars.

Her work has made her a recognisable figure among Kenyan motorists, while her Suzuki, popularly known as “Jalopy”, has also featured prominently in her automotive adventures.
