Tuesday blackout to affect parts of 13 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned power blackout that will affect parts of 13 counties across the country on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Monday, March 2, 2026, the utility company said the interruption is part of routine network maintenance.

In Nairobi County, the outage will affect parts of Kamukunji in the Nairobi North area from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Areas set to experience the blackout include Jua Kali, Shauri Moyo, Muthurwa Primary School, parts of Gikomba, Gikomba Social Hall, the District Officer’s Office in Gikomba, Family Bank Gikomba Branch, Co-operative Bank Gikomba Branch, BBS Mall, Shell Petrol Station, Ismariot Hotel, Nomad Hotel, Eastleigh High School, Pumwani Boys High School, Starehe Boys Centre and parts of General Waruinge Street and nearby customers. Parts of Mathare and the surrounding areas will also be without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

In Kiambu County, the interruption will affect parts of Rironi and Thamanda from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Areas to be affected include Rironi, Kagia, Kanduma, Ngecha, Gitangu, Thamanda, Kerwa, Muguga, Gatonye, Kamuguga, Universal and Zambezi. In the Kiambaa area, including Kiambaa Market and Senior Chief Koinange High School, power will also be off from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Other affected areas include Waguthu, Kiambaa Primary School and Secondary School, Willopark Apartments, Mugumoini Primary School, Raini Water Pump, Valentine Growers, Shangilia, Madira, Mulele, Induro, Kereda and BI Water.

In Nyeri County, areas such as Kamune Market, Geitwa Market and Iruri Market will be without power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The blackout will also affect Kieni, Riakiberu Coffee Factory, Kaharo, Thuita, Githanga Dispensary, Githanga Secondary School, Gachirago Coffee Factory, Karugiro Coffee Factory, Wambugu Mucheru and Gaithunu. In Kirinyaga County, the whole of Kagio Town, Kahiro Village, Kinyaga Village, Kianjogu Village, Kandongu Market, Kiamikuyu Village and Gitooini Village will experience a similar outage during the same hours.

In Tharaka Nithi County, the interruption will begin earlier at 8.30 am and end at 5.00 pm. Areas to be affected include Kewi, Ciakaringa Market, Marimanti Prison, Marimanti Mortuary and Kaari Sheep and Goat area.

Coastal counties will also be affected. In Mombasa County, the Serena area and Pangoni, including Shanzu Market, PrideInn Flamingo Beach Resort, Safari Club, Kenya Navy Communication Base, Shaza and Kilua Dolphin Hotel, will be without power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. In Kilifi County, parts of Malindi Town and Kisumu Ndogo will experience an outage during the same hours. Areas to be affected include Kisumu Ndogo, Naivas Junction, Malindi Products, Serena, Ndugu Mnani, Alaska, Malindi British Petroleum Station, CM Steel, Furunzi, Giraho and Ganda Primary School.

In Taita Taveta County, Bachuma and surrounding areas such as Manyatta and Miasenyi will be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. In Kwale County, Msambweni, Lungalunga, Shimoni and Shimba Hills, including the Kenya Medical Training College campus, Kenya Navy facilities, Kanana and Mwangulu, will also experience power interruption during the same period.

In Kisii County, Magena Market, Getai Primary School, Nyangusu, Bendere, Mara Tea, Kenyoro, Ritembu, Rianyachabera, Magena Boys High School, Riobonyo, St Theresa Secondary School and Oganda will be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Residents in parts of West Pokot County, including Karas, Kanisa Mbili, Safari Hotel, Cheptabesia, Kaprom, Kamatira Primary School, Leunon, Kapkoris and Emboasis, will also experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. In Nandi County, Tulon and the Corner area will be without electricity from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.

In Bungoma County, areas such as Webuye and Misikhu, including Lugulu, Munyikana, Malaha, Tete, Kituni, Nasasi, Lumuli, Makhese, Kibingei and Lukhuna, will also be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
