Tony Gachoka wants Babu Owino arrested

Journalist-cum-politician Tony Gachoka, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, called for the arrest of Embakasi East Member of National Assembly Babu Owino.

In a rather direct statement on his X account, Gachoka opined that the Embakasi East legislator is not fit to hold any public office and should be behind bars.

Gachoka referenced his opinion on the shooting of DJ Evolve and continued to state that Babu is wanted for attempted murder. Like Babu, he expressed his dissatisfaction with ODM party leader Oburu Odinga and supported Winnie Odinga’s stand.

“The man who shot DJ Evolve must be arrested! Babu Owino is unfit to be the Party Leader of ODM or the Governor of Nairobi. He is wanted for attempted murder. I cannot stand Oburu Odinga or William Ruto either. BUT – Winnie Odinga is my Hero!” part of his tweet read.

Gachoka’s Gubernatorial ambitions

According to Gachoka’s X bio, he intends to challenge Babu Owino for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat in 2027. This latest outburst signals a deepening rift within the opposition circles as the race for City Hall intensifies.

By siding with Winnie Odinga, Gachoka appears to be positioning himself within a faction of the party that favours a younger, more “principled” generation over the established guard represented by Oburu Odinga.

As the 2027 General Election draws closer, the rivalry between Gachoka and Owino is expected to become a central theme in Nairobi politics. Owino continues to enjoy a massive following among the youth and in the Embakasi East constituency.

Babu Owino has yet to issue a formal response to these specific allegations, though he has historically dismissed critiques from the likes of Gachoka as “noise from a political lightweight.

On Wednesday, January 22, 2026, Owino challenged the Orange Democratic Party’s (ODM) National Executive Council to hand him the reins of power.

Eyeing the top post, Babu accused party officials of manipulating delegate registers to keep younger leaders from rising to power.
