It was the end of the road for four persons of interest linked to rising cases of mugging, robbery and thuggery in Nanyuki and its environs.

This is after security agencies on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in an intelligence-led operation, apprehended the four with suspected stolen items.

Police officers from Nanyuki Police Station, acting on intelligence within the Grogan area, raided houses linked to the suspects and arrested them.

In a statement, police said the four persons of interest are Burundian nationals identified as Niyongabo Evode, Nagishakiye Elie, Melance Niyengeko and Twagirayezu Chanel.

“Today, police officers from Nanyuki Police Station, acting on intelligence-led information within the Grogan area, raided the houses of four suspected muggers who were found and arrested,” the statement read.

Residents in the area have in recent weeks raised concerns over increased incidents of phone snatching and nighttime attacks, especially in busy estates and near entertainment spots.

Police say the operation was part of an ongoing crackdown targeting criminal networks operating within the town.

Recovered stolen mobile phones

During searches of the suspects’ houses, officers recovered 19 suspected stolen mobile phones. Also seized were one gas cylinder and two microphones believed to have been stolen.

“Upon search of their respective houses, a total of nineteen suspected stolen mobile phones, one gas cylinder and two microphones were recovered and secured as exhibits,” police confirmed.

The recovered items have since been kept as exhibits as investigations continue.

The four persons of interest are currently being held in police custody pending arraignment in court.

Police added that the operation is still ongoing as they pursue other possible accomplices linked to the group.

Security agencies have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that may help curb crime, assuring residents that patrols and intelligence-driven operations will remain intensified in Nanyuki and surrounding areas.
