Scores feared dead after accident in Kedowa along Nakuru-Kericho Road
Three people are feared dead, while four others are nursing injuries after a car they were driving ran into an accident in the Kedowa area along the Kericho-Nakuru highway.
The incident which happened on Thursday, December 25, 2025, involved a Toyota Probox car which was carrying at least seven passengers.

Reports indicate that the Toyota Probox rammed into a lorry which was heading towards Nakuru.
On the other hand, reports further indicate that the victims were family members who were heading back home after an event.
Bodies of the deceased were taken to Lodiani Mortuary, while the wreckage of both cars was ferried to a Kericho Police Station.
NTSA report on December accidents
The accident comes just a day after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) issued a new report highlighting an increase in road accidents while flagging drink driving as among the top safety violations during the festive season.
In a press release on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, NTSA announced that in one day twenty-five deaths were reported across various parts of the country.
The authority has confirmed that the accidents occurred in counties including Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, Nyeri, Siaya, Kiambu, Nairobi, Machakos, Narok, Kisii, Turkana, and Uasin Gishu.
“We regret to confirm that fatal road traffic crashes have been reported across various parts of the country, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, Nyeri, Siaya, Kiambu, Nairobi, Machakos, Narok, Kisii, Turkana, and Uasin Gishu Counties,” NTSA said.
In addition, the authority confirmed that the accidents that occurred on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, had at least sixteen crashes reported, with most victims being pedestrians and passengers.
“Tragically, on 23 December 2025 alone, 16 crashes were recorded, resulting in 25 lives lost. “Most of the victims were pedestrians (8), followed by passengers (8), motorcyclists (5), pillion passengers (3), and one driver,” NTSA added.
Major road violations
As the nation celebrates the festive season, we reaffirm that road safety remains our top priority. We have deployed all available resources and are currently implementing every necessary measure to safeguard lives on our roads.
According to NTSA, over the past four days, multi-agency compliance checks have identified at least 1,702 violations involving commercial, public service, and private vehicles.
NTSA confirmed that the main violations include the absence or malfunctioning of speed limiters, drunken driving, and operating unroadworthy motor vehicles.
“Absence or malfunctioning of speed limiters, drunken driving, operating unroadworthy motor vehicles, carrying excess passengers, contravening insurance (vehicle tax class) requirements, and operating without a Road Service Licence (RSL),” NTSA said.
On the other hand, the authority reported that at least forty-two drivers have been arrested, while four hundred and eighteen vehicles have been flagged as non-compliant.
As enforcement initiatives intensify, NTSAs now calling on drivers, passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists to exercise extreme caution, use the road responsibly, and strictly adhere to traffic rules.
