School holidays: NTSA steps up road safety checks at Embu bus stage

As primary and secondary schools prepare to close for the August holiday, transport hubs across the country are getting busy.
To keep students and everyday commuters safe during the rush, officers from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) took their road safety drive straight to the streets.
On July 27, 2026, officers visited the main bus stage in Embu Town, speaking directly with matatu crews, passengers, and stage managers about traffic compliance.

During the exercise, NTSA officers spoke with drivers, conductors, and passengers gathered near local businesses and stages.
The team urged public service vehicle operators to obey speed limits, avoid overloading, and ensure their vehicles stay roadworthy throughout the travel period.
Explaining the drive, the agency posted that its “Embu regional office team undertakes road safety sensitization at the main bus stage to ensure safety on our road as schools prepare to close for the august holiday.”
The exercise forms part of wider countrywide efforts to prevent avoidable road crashes during peak travel days as children head back home.
How to report dangerous driving
Safety officials emphasised that keeping the roads safe requires active support from every Kenyan.
Passengers, parents, and pedestrians were asked to remain alert and report reckless drivers or overloaded vehicles without delay.
Posting under the hashtag “#UsalamaBarabarani”, “The Authority urges members of the public to support these efforts by reporting any incidents or unsafe practices that put children at risk.”
To make reporting fast and accessible, NTSA shared direct contacts for police and emergency teams.
Members of the public can make immediate reports through “Police Hotlines 999, 911 or 112” or seek emergency assistance using the “St. John’s Ambulance Toll free number – 0800722540 or Hotline – 0721225285” and the “Red Cross Toll free number – 1199”.
Commuters can also file complaints online through “The NTSA Incident Reporting Platform – ntsa.go.ke/report-incident.”
With student travel increasing over the coming days, the authority urged drivers to exercise patience, obey traffic rules, and prioritise safety above all else on the road.
