The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast cool weather conditions, rainfall, and strong winds in several parts of the country on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

In its daily weather forecast issued on Friday, July 31, 2026, KMD said rainfall is expected across several regions, with about 20 counties likely to receive showers during the forecast period.

The affected areas include parts of western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Central Kenya and eastern regions, where residents should expect varying rainfall conditions ranging from light showers to thunderstorms.

“Rainfall is expected in some parts of Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Kakamega, Trans-Nzoia, Vihiga, Bomet, Nandi, Meru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Nyamira, Kisii, Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua counties,” KMD said.

The department added that intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in several areas, including parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Makueni and Kajiado counties.

“Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Makueni and Kajiado counties,” the statement read.

Strong winds expected in coastal and northern areas

KMD warned that strong winds are expected over parts of northern, eastern and coastal Kenya during the forecast period.

“Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected over parts of Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui counties,” the weather department said.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious, especially in areas likely to experience strong winds.

Nairobi weather forecast

In Nairobi, temperatures are expected to range between a maximum of 26°C and a minimum of 12°C.

KMD forecast partly cloudy conditions in the capital, with cloudy periods expected in the morning followed by sunny intervals later in the day.

The department also indicated that Nairobi could experience light showers in a few areas.

Showers and thunderstorms likely

Parts of western Kenya and the Rift Valley are expected to experience showers and thunderstorms.

Counties including Uasin Gishu, Trans-Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Narok, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisii and Nyamira are among areas likely to receive rainfall and possible thunderstorms.

The coastal region is expected to remain partly cloudy, with counties such as Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu likely to experience sunny intervals and chances of light showers.
